What is 2Dism?

2Dism as a whole is very complex, however, “2Dist” is a term for a person who recognizes 2D entities, or “2DEs” (beings from animations and videogames for example) to be real living people with sentience.

This mindset is not symbolic or metaphorical, but literal. To a 2Dist, 2D entities are truly living beings, and ARE NOT recognized as “fictional characters” that don’t exist as alive in reality.

Simply put, 2D entities are just as real as we are. No exceptions.

A common trait among the majority of 2Dists is that they are, or share traits of “Empaths”.

According to Medicalnewstoday.com, “an empath is someone who feels more empathy than the average person. These people are usually more accurate in recognizing emotions by looking at another person’s face. They are also more likely to recognize emotions earlier than other people and rate those emotions as being more intense.”

These articles barely scratch the surface. However, in relation to 2Dism, things become very complex.

Because Empaths and/or individuals that share such traits feel much deeper than most, some can even identify with, and display emotion for and sympathize with non sentient beings and/or inanimate objects.

In the mind of a 2Dist, non sentient beings and/or inanimate objects have transformed to become

living beings.

Obviously, you can’t paint all people with one brush, and not everyone who is a 2Dist is an Empath.

Additionally, not all Empaths become 2Dists. Humans very are complex. Most elements in life are not black and white, and there is much gray area among individuals who identify as a 2Dist.

That said, the main trait of a 2Dist is the understanding that 2D beings are a real, living entities with hearts and minds of their own.

For example, a 2Dist wouldn’t particularly agree with the idea that a 2D being is “fictional” in the form that they are, but could be “real” in an alternate universe.

Another example is that a 2Dist wouldn’t particularly agree with the idea that a 2D being is “only real in their heart”, but ultimately recognizes said being as a “fictional character” who isn’t real.

It’s important distinctions like these that must be emphasized to stress the differences between 2Dism and other forms of 2D love.

The 2D love community IS NOT a monolith.

No form of 2D love is “right” or “wrong”.

Everyone is different, and that’s okay! We respect all forms of 2D love so long as no one is being harmed.

 Live and let live.

We feel individuals should have a community that speaks to thier ideals and state of mind, and so, we provide for the 2Dists among us.
